Historical & Preservation Consulting Services

Rooted in the landscapes, communities, and layered histories of the Lower Columbia River region, the Lower Columbia Preservation Society (LCPS) offers preservation consulting services that unite scholarship, stewardship, and public purpose. 

​Guided by regional knowledge and national preservation standards, LCPS provides consulting services that are scholarly, well-cited and that understand and reflect the distinct character of the Northwest’s history.

List of Services for Home Owners & Non Profits

Just the Facts

A short, one page description that will provide basic facts for further research or to be used as a standalone statement of the history of your home. This document will provide the construction date, style, architect and builder (if known), as well as any related addresses, notable people or facts associated with your home. It will also place it within your neighborhood's historical context. One historic photo of the building will be included if possible and a relevant newspaper article. All facts will be footnoted. This constitutes 2 hours of research and 1 hour of writing.
Price $150

The Footprints Left Behind

Learn who else walked the halls of your home! This service includes Just the Facts! about your home plus a lineage of residents/occupants, including short bios. Additional news articles and images will be acquired (if available). This is five hours of research and two hours of writing.
Price $350

Heritage Package

Our Heritage service is a three to five-page report on the history of your home, it includes facts about the house, history of previous residents, and includes in depth descriptions of the architecture, additional photographs, and newspaper accounts. LCPS will host a webpage about your home's history and highlight your preservation efforts (if you would like these details to be public).

Preservation Consulting for Homeowners

​This is perfect for home projects! If you have questions about paint color selection, wallpaper, period-appropriate hardware, or want help brainstorming a project design, schedule a meeting with one of our specialists.
Price $35/hour

Local Historic Landmark Applications

A qualified LCPS staff member or volunteer will help guide you through the process of completing an application to nominate your property as a local historic landmark, including creating a narrative history and architectural description, outlining reasons why the property is historically or architecturally significant to Astoria and providing photographs and other supporting documentation. This process can take several months to complete, as it has to be publicly heard and voted on by Astoria’s Historic Landmarks Commission.

$500 for homeowners     $750 for commercial

Peer-Review Service

Review and feedback on article's and drafts, manuscripts or preservation plans for commercial projects

Decorative and information plaque placed on the outside of your home that tells a short history of the property and its historical significance.
